About us

Overview:

Founded in 1909, The Golden's Bridge Fire Department is one of three volunteer Fire Departments in the Town of Lewisboro located approx. 40 miles north of New York City in Westchester County, New York. We are an organization of about 70 men and women who serve the community by providing Fire, Rescue, Disaster Relief, and Emergency Medical Services to anyone in need. We are also dedicated to improving life in the community by offering scholarships for community-minded youth, supporting Scouting organizations of America, and supporting other local charities.

Areas of responsibility:

We cover an area of approximately 8 square miles in the hamlet of Golden's Bridge which includes a mix of both business and residential areas, as well as a section of Interstate 684 and the Metro-North Railroad. Serving a population of approximately 4,000 residents and a countless number of commuters who use both Interstate 684 and Metro-North Railroad, we are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Over the past 3 years, we have responded to an average of over 312 calls per/year.

Training:

We provide continuous training to all of our members in all aspects of Fire and Rescue as well as Disaster Management, Hazardous Material, and Emergency Medical Care. At minimum, all of our members have been professionally trained to meet the standard of Basic Firefighter as set forth by the State of New York. Most members, not satisfied with this minimum training, have completed and passed more advanced courses in firefighting as well as specialized courses in rescue operations, hazardous materials training, pump operations, arson awareness, and emergency medical training, to name just a few.

Other Services:

Our department is also active in the community in many other ways. We sponsor Boy Scout Troop #154 and Cub Scout Pack #154 financially, as well as providing them with a meeting place in our firehouse. We award the Henry T. Martin scholarship each year to a graduating high school senior within the Fire District. We have adopted a three-mile stretch of Route 138 to help ensure a cleaner community. We conduct safety presentations each year at local summer camps, and we host an annual Fire Prevention Week open house, where we have safety equipment and apparatus demonstrations. We host the annual Children's Party which is always a favorite. We also give assistance to needy families and organizations, such as the Friends of Karen during the holidays and in times of hardship.

In Conclusion:

As you can see from our many activities, our members have a strong desire to help and improve the community. And, as with most organizations, our most important resource is our members, and we are always looking for new people to become part of our team. Without dedicated members, like ours, the community would suffer greatly. If you think you would like to help and can spare a few hours of your time each week to help your community, then we are interested in talking to you!
