With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Douglas K Smith ('D.K.'), a 70-year member and three-time ex-Chief. Doug joined the department in 1954, following his older brother Leroy in serving our community.

Doug was very active in the department, so much so that in 1962, he became the 28th and youngest person to become Chief of the department.

Doug also participated in Social issues by becoming a Westchester County Parade Judge.

One of Doug's other talents that he was known for was being a great cook, and for years, he was chairman of the 'Kitchen Committee,' which prepared many great meals for the department and members' families in times of celebration and grief.

Doug's influence on the department will endure, and we are grateful for his service.

The wake will be held at Clarks' Funeral Home in Katonah this Wednesday, the 12th, between 4 & 8 pm. Thursday, a small 10:30 am Mass will be held at Clark's, followed by a procession to the cemetery in North Salem.

Fond memories of the Kitchen Committee and helping Dougie prepare meals. Dougie always gave “interesting” advice to us junior members. Rest in Peace, and Thanks for the memories…. Chris Menzel
